This blog was to be dedicated to political discussion and civil debate, aiming to foster thoughtful conversations that are informed and respectful.
My goal was to move away from a platform that tells you what to think. I wanted to provide a place where confrontation of ideas can occur without being shouted down when you have a dissenting opinion.
Where I am Now
I have given up hope. I have tried to engage for 5 years with those who support Trump and his actions. Many of these are otherwise very intelligent and rational friends. But, the more I try to engage the deeper they entrench. From my friends, family, or co-workers I am met by silence, or from a few a simple “I do not care” or “Nothing you say will change my mind”. From my public comments on public pages and posts, I get mostly trolls who spout a lie from their leader’s plethora of lies about the given topic, followed by the inevitable insult either my intelligence or character.
“The truth is still the truth no matter how many lies are told” was my mantra, but now I see against a wave of willful ignorance and antagonism even the truth withers and dies. Sadly, I understand the ending of 1984 so much better now.
