My original post of FB was very combative and almost insulting, please forgive me if you saw that post, as it violates the very nature of what I say this board should be doing – opening discussions.
Today marks a significant and troubling moment in our nation’s history. Former President Trump’s actions have moved from the shadows into the open, raising serious concerns about the state of our democracy. At 12:30 a.m., he announced on his platform, Truth Social, that he had nullified all pardons issued by President Biden on his final day in office. This action is not within the constitutional powers of any branch of government and raises serious legal and ethical questions.
These pardons were granted to individuals involved in the January 6th Commission hearings, representing both Democrats and Republicans. This move appears to target those who have been critical of Trump, further escalating tensions and undermining the rule of law.
Trump’s recent actions, including the removal of key figures from the DOJ and FBI, suggest a calculated effort to consolidate power within the executive branch. His disregard for judicial orders, such as the recent refusal to comply with a court’s temporary block on deportations, highlights a concerning erosion of respect for our legal institutions.
History shows that the undermining of democratic institutions often begins with the weakening of the rule of law. As citizens, it is our responsibility to remain vigilant and hold our leaders accountable to the principles of our Constitution.
